Booklist Review of Fantastic Magic
Budding prestidigitators are privy to a rudimentary look into the art of magic in this selection from the Fantastic Magic series (6 titles). Inside, readers will discover common magical terms introduced throughout in bold (an accompanying glossary and index are appended), a very short history of the art form that highlights David Copperfield and two of his major illusions, and full spreads of instructions for three magic tricks that can be accomplished with common household items, such as toothpicks and pencils. Full-color photographs lend support to the instructions for pulling off the illusions, and the text includes reminders that magicians should practice in front of a mirror prior to performing and keep their secrets to themselves. While more comprehensive history and instruction can be found in some standalone titles, this series will nonetheless intrigue.
