Booklist Review of Intro to Language
The Intro to Language series (6 titles) aims to teach the very young basic vocabulary and phrases in a different language. Clean, airy layouts strike a nice balance between white space, large text, and supportive illustrations, typically arranged into topical double-page spreads. In this offering, little learners are guided through French via numbers (1 to 20), the alphabet, colors, and greetings as well as vocabulary for family members, animals, and places. Each term or phrase is consistently printed in stacked, colored boxes, with the French on top in an orchid-hued box with its phonetic pronunciation; underneath, the English appears in a slightly smaller periwinkle box. A world map highlights countries where French is spoken, and a concluding QR code links to online learning extensions, from a craft to Duo Lingo courses.
