SLJ Review of Milo Gray's Imagination Adventures
In this new, full-color beginning chapter book series, Milo Gray takes readers along with him and his imaginary best friends (a stuffed elephant and a stuffed giraffe) on new adventures in each story. In these first four titles, they explore space, go on a safari in search of wild animals, complete a series of super spy challenges, and explore a mysterious tomb in search of treasure—all in Milo’s imagination, of course! Frequent reality checks in the form of neighbors and family members ground the story in real life. Milo’s adventures are easily accessible to young readers, with four chapters and well-spaced, short paragraphs. Filieri’s engaging illustrations will delight young readers, who will enjoy seeing the contrast between Milo’s actual location and his imaginary one. A simple craft project, discussion questions, writing prompts, and a glossary are appended in each book. VERDICT: Recommended for purchase in most collections where beginning chapter books are in demand.
